The Daily Mail obtained audio recordings of two 911 calls made by a Secret Service agent after Tafari Campbell, 45, the personal chef of the Obama family, drowned in a pond near their Martha’s Vineyard estate in July.

The agent, Dave, called the emergency services at 7:46 p.m. and reported that a male guest of the house was drowning in the Edgartown Great Pond, behind the property. He said that they had rescue swimmers and another agent on a boat trying to reach him.

He said that they did not witness the drowning, but someone ran up to their back post and told them that Campbell had fallen off his paddle board and went underwater. He did not say who the person was, but previous reports indicated that it was another female Obama staffer who attempted to save Campbell.

“Someone came running up to our back post, saying a gentleman, it’s just a guest of the house, is out there drowning,” Dave said.

The dispatcher asked him if they needed an ambulance or water rescue assistance. Dave hesitated and said he was not sure what was happening “in the back of the property”.

“They didn’t advise right now. I would say at least an ambulance,” Dave expressed.

He then asked if he could call back on another line, because “they’re not passing information over the radio right now”. The dispatcher agreed and gave him a number. He also asked for a basic description of the missing man.

Dave called back a few minutes later, sounding more anxious.

“So our rescue swimmers aren’t able to locate the gentleman that was reported drowning,” Dave said.

“They’re out in the water right now but as of now they don’t know where he is.”

The dispatcher asked him to provide more details about Campbell’s appearance and clothing. Dave communicated with his team members on the beach via radio and gave the description.

“He’s wearing all black, he’s on a paddle board, he’s 40ish years old, black gentlemen, regular build,” he said.

He also confirmed that they had recovered Campbell’s paddle board, but he was not wearing a life jacket.

Campbell’s body was found the next day in 8 feet of water about 100 feet from the shore of the Obamas’ compound.

The medical examiner ruled his death as an accidental drowning caused by “submersion in a body of water”.

The Massachusetts State Police requested that the names of witnesses and Secret Service agents be redacted from public records.

Campbell had worked as a sous chef at the White House under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. He later became the personal chef of the Obamas after they left the White House.
