British Airways to Make a Change in Amount of Food Onboard Some Flights
The last thing we expected airlines to trim is meals.
But that’s what British Airways is about to do in an effort to cut down on food waste.
Some British Airways passengers on some BA flights will have to go without. The airline will stop loading enough food on some flights for all passengers.
Under the new catering service, to ensure that you receive a meal it is best to order one when booking your ticket. That is especially true on long-haul or transatlantic flights. Otherwise, the airline might now run out of meals.
"We're reviewing meal loading on flights where we are seeing consistent patterns of food waste while ensuring all customers that request a meal receive one," British Airways said in a statement.
British Airways had a problem last year with its former catering service, in which some short haul flights went completely without food.
Just last month, the airline had a problem with its catering on a long-haul transatlantic flight and got KFC in Nassau, the Bahamas, for the trip to London.
British Airways has been known for its cost-cutting measures, including once eliminating its beverage service on short-haul flights. But this will likely cause a blowback from passengers who either do not get a meal or have trouble at some airports finding food and beverage after going through security.
