The British Virgin Islands (BVI) is continuing a recent trend of expanded accessibility as government officials announced daily nonstop flights from Miami aboard American Airlines will resume in expanded form this fall.

BVI officials also announced new flights from between Luis Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Virgin Gorda Airport in Spanish Town, BVI aboard a key regional carrier.

Beginning November 16, American Airlines’ daily nonstop flights between Miami International Airport and Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island, BVI will resume following a hiatus that began in August.

A second daily flight will be added starting December 5, and a third daily flight will be offered beginning December 23.

Additionally, luxury regional carrier Tradewind Aviation will launch nonstop flights between San Juan and Virgin Gorda starting November 16, according to British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission officials.

Tradewind will offer “multiple round-trip flights” on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with additional holiday flights, officials said.

“It truly has never been easier for travelers to visit our stunning territory,” said Clive McCoy, the territory’s director of tourism.

“We are thankful for partnerships with American Airlines and Tradewind Aviation for increasing service to the British Virgin Islands this winter and beyond,” McCoy added.

“The British Virgin Islands is eager to welcome longtime guests and newcomers to experience paradise for themselves,” he said.

Last year’s launch of daily nonstop flights between Miami International Airport and the BVI’s Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport represented the first-ever direct flights to the territory from a major U.S. airport.

The flights eliminate the need for travelers to connect in Puerto Rico or St. Thomas.

Travelers will find a variety of year-end and New Year’s events across the BVI, including the annual Old Year's Night at Foxy's, the Trellis Bay Old Year’s Party and the More for 2024 event on Virgin Gorda. A New Year’s Celebration is also scheduled for Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park.

The territory’s visitor arrivals will also occur via sea, as the BVI officials earlier this year reached an agreement to increase cruise ship calls and create new land excursion options.

The plan includes programs to convert cruise travelers resort-based visitors, promote summer cruise itineraries, engage travel advisors and create consumer demand.
