Lamar Odom Shares Experience With "Pink Cocaine," Same Drug Liam Payne Reportedly Took Before His Death
Lamar Odom is detailing his past experience with a dangerous drug.
Amid reports One Direction alum Liam Payne had taken pink cocaine—a recreational drug that’s often a combination of depressants and stimulants like MDMA, ketamine and opioids—prior to his Oct. 16 death, the former NBA player recalled his own experiences with drugs.
After saying he thinks he took pink cocaine, the former basketball star was asked about his experience taking crack, pink cocaine and other drugs.
“Drugs could cause you to hallucinate—I’ve heard voices before,” Lamar—who was married to Khloe Kardashian from 2009 to their 2013 separation—told TMZ of his experience with drugs. “That’s about it.”
The 44-year-old—who has been open with his struggles of drug abuse and addiction over the years—went on to emphasize the importance of staying away from drugs entirely.
“Who wants to get high?” Lamar posited. “I call it getting low.”
Lamar also went on to express his condolences for those close to the singer—who rose to fame in One Direction alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson—after he died from falling three stories off his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.
As the former Lakers player added, “I’m gonna make sure I say a prayer for his family and everyone that he knows.”
Following Liam’s death, the preliminary toxicology report found “multiple” drugs in his system, including pink cocaine, according to The New York Times. However, final results of his toxicology report are still pending.
Prior to the tragedy, the 31-year-old had been open about his sobriety journey and his struggles along the way—including detailing his 100-day stay at a treatment facility in 2023.
“I just needed to take a little bit of time out for myself actually because I kind of became somebody who I didn't really recognize anymore," he explained in a vulnerable 2023 YouTube video. “I was in bad shape up to that point and I was really happy more than anything when I arrived to kind of put a stopper on life and work.”
In the days since Liam’s passing, many stars including his fellow boyband members, family—parents Geoff Payne and Karen Payne, sisters Nicola and Ruth as well as ex Cheryl Cole, with whom he shared 7-year-old son Bear—have come forward to share their grief and condolences.
“I don’t feel this world was good enough or kind enough to you,” Liam’s sister Ruth wrote in a touching Instagram tribute Oct. 19. “Quite often over the years you’ve had to try really hard to overcome all that was being aimed at you. You just wanted to be loved and to make people happy with your music. You never believed you were good enough, I hope you can now see this outpouring of love that you never received in your time.”
