Pete Davidson Pays Tribute to Late Dad During Rare Public Appearance

Pete Davidson is stepping out after months out of the spotlight.

The 31-year-old was photographed alongside his longtime pal Machine Gun Kelly on Oct. 23 at the sneak preview of The Room at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.

The comedian was all smiles at the event, where he was seen wearing a meaningful shirt.

Davidson proudly sported a red Fire Department of New York T-shirt, honoring his late father Scott Matthew Davidson, who died on September 11, 2001 when he was a first responder at the Twin Towers.

The Saturday Night Live alum, who has spoken about his family’s story several times publicly, let his attire do the talking at the event, which also marked his first public appearance since he reportedly checked into a wellness facility for mental health treatment this past summer.

Davidson checked into the facility to help with his mental health struggles in July 2024, People previously reported.

The comedian has opened up previously about his post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder, linking his mental health struggles to the loss of his father early on in life.

"My dad told me he was going to pick me up from school on 9/11,” Davidson recalled in March 2023 on the Real Ones podcast's Patreon. I got picked up by my mom. She didn't tell me what was going on for like three days.”

"It was weird because we didn't know he was dead for, like, three weeks," Davidson continued. "They were finding people, you know? They were pulling people out of s--t, and there was just some sort of hope. Like, it was just up and down and nobody knew how to deal with it."

Sharing how the traumatic event has impacted his thought process, Davidson added, “You actually have to trick your brain, because your brain after a while becomes used to trauma, it becomes used to being hurt, becomes used to being f--ked over.”
