First on our list is to cruise the Sea of Cortez in style on a luxury catamaran tour. We discovered that most cruises include cocktails at sunset, and often also dinner and even live entertainment. Or if you prefer doing things solo, hire a catamaran and see the sights yourself. 

Sights & Sounds Of Whales

Whales are magnificent creatures of the sea and captivate our imagination. If you love them as much as we do, you’re in for a treat. 

Thousands of whales migrate to these warmer shores to escape the Arctic cold of their feeding grounds, every year. These include mostly humpback and gray whales, but on occasion also orcas, blue whales, and sperm whales. That makes a whale-watching tour a must during your stay. 

We recommend choosing a tour company that provides hydrophones. Listening to whalesong while seeing them up close enhances the already fascinating experience. 

Go Off-Road

If you prefer your sports off the water, this one’s for you. Get the adrenaline racing with an off-road tour. Unleash your inner Baja 1000 racer or navigate the dunes in a zippy buggy, the choice is yours. 

We found plenty of desert and mountain terrain-based options to get our pulses racing. 

View The Sunset From Land’s End

If you’re going to sail into the sunset, do it until you reach Land’s End. This is the name given to the demarcation point between the Sea Of Cortez and the Pacific. 

Exploring Los Cabos from the water makes sense, as there are several landmarks to see from the sea. A glass bottomed-boat will give you spectacular views under the sea, too. We saw a wealth of sea life that we otherwise would’ve missed, making our sailboat cruise that much more special.

Do The Art Walk

Don’t worry, it’s not all sea and sand - some urban activities are just as entertaining and educational. The historic Distrito del Arte is a cultural event during peak travel season from November to June.

At this time, you can enjoy a feast of color and creativity every Thursday evening, with the ‘Art Walk” down the cobbled streets of San José del Cabo. 

Local galleries stay open much later than usual and give you the chance to enjoy exceptional artwork on your way out to a restaurant or pub for the evening. We found it was the perfect way to learn more about Mexican culture.

Help An Endangered Species

How about a vacation that makes a difference? Most of the world’s sea turtle species use the region as their nesting grounds. Unfortunately, baby turtles are extremely vulnerable to predators on their journey from shell to sea.

If you’re traveling with kids, or just love animals, you’ll love this local initiative to conserve these beautiful creatures. From July to November, you can join a program that helps baby sea turtle hatchlings make their way to the water for the first time. 

Explore Coral Reefs

Are you a keen diver? If so, you’re in luck, because diving is one of the most popular things to do in Los Cabos. 

Visit the Cabo Pulmo marine sanctuary to learn more about underwater conservation in the area. Then go for a dive to see the dolphins, manta rays, sea turtles, and other sea life that call these richly-hued coral reefs home. It’s one of our favorite things to do in Los Cabos and is a magical memory-making activity.
