Mexican low-cost airline Viva Aerobus has announced that it will launch six routes connecting Monterrey, Mexico with major destinations across the United States in 2024.

The U.S. gateways include Austin, Denver, Miami, New York City, the Bay Area and Orlando.

"I am pleased that, as we are doing from the government, Viva Aerobus continues to demonstrate its commitment to connecting our state with some of the most important cities in the United States," said Samuel García, Governor of the State of Nuevo León, where the city of Monterrey is located.

Operations will begin on the following dates next year:

  • Denver (DEN): January 25, with two flights a week
  • Austin (AUS): March 22, with four weekly frequencies
  • Orlando (MCO): May 9, with three weekly flights
  • Miami (MIA): July 1, with three weekly frequencies
  • Oakland/San Francisco (OAK): July 1, with two weekly flights
  • New York (JFK): start date and frequencies TBD

Viva Aerobus reported that the price of tickets for these new routes will start from $65 for a one-way trip, plus the payment for the Airport Use Fare. According to the airline, this strategy responds to the growing demand in the more dynamic air market between the two countries.

Mexico's Ministry of Tourism notes that U.S. tourist arrivals to Mexico account for 63 percent of the total number of foreigners arriving by air.

These new routes from Monterrey to the U.S. will join three more that the airline will offer to three Mexican cities, including Tapachula, La Paz and Durango.

“Viva was born in Monterrey and is the only airline based in operations and a connectivity HUB in the city. These nine routes mark a before and after in its national and international connectivity. The U.S. airlines are designed to serve the world’s largest international airline market with a low-cost option that makes it easy for people to travel to see family and friends, vacation, or do business,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus.

The announcement of the launch of these new routes takes place within the framework of a year of historic growth for this low-cost Mexican airline in the city of Monterrey, where Viva Aerobus has positioned itself as the leading airline in terms of its vast network of routes, number of flights and passenger traffic.

This expansion of services will result in 13 million seats offered from Monterrey by 2024, representing an increase in capacity of 23 percent, nearly 2.5 million seats more than it will operate in 2023.
