Rob Lowe Admits to "Brat Pack" Romance With Demi Moore
Rob Lowe is reminiscing about the past.
The Parks and Recreation alum admitted that he and Demi Moore—who starred alongside him in the 1985 film St. Elmo's Fire—had a fling while members of the the Brat Pack in the 1980s.
"Demi and I briefly," Rob began on the Oct. 22 episode of Kelly Ripa's Let's Talk Off Camera podcast, "I'm not telling tales out of school—we briefly had a thing."
But the 60-year-old noted that their romance didn't last, with Demi going on to get engaged to their fellow Brat Packer Emilio Estevez in 1985 before calling it quits the following year and ultimately marrying Bruce Willis in 1987. (The couple divorced in 2000 and share daughters Rumer Willis, 36, Scout Willis, 33, and Tallulah Willis, 30.) Through it all, Rob insisted that he and Demi have managed to maintain a strong friendship.
As for how Rob feels about their fling now? He wasn't surprised by any of the trysts that happened during his Brat Pack days.
"Look, anytime you put young, 20-something men and women together," he explained, "hookups are inevitable. And I don't think that has changed."
The 9-1-1: Lone Star actor—who shares sons Matthew Lowe, 31, and John Owen Lowe, 28, with wife of 36 years Sheryl Berkoff—also provided fans hope of finally getting a sequel to St. Elmo's Fire off the ground almost 40 years after the original film.
"It's moving along," he shared. "It's going a little more slowly than I would have liked, but that's a good thing because we're trying to find the right writer and the right story."
And Rob confirmed that everyone from the first movie—including Demi, Emilio, Ally Sheedy, Andrew McCarthy, Judd Nelson and Mare Winningham—is "on board."
"Everybody's excited," he continued, while reflecting on the reasons why he thinks the movie "still resonates with people."
"It was a hit in its time because it spoke to where we all were in our lives," Rob said. "Will we ever have the kind of deep friendships coming out of college and coming out of our early 20s? Will that last in our lives? And where are we headed now that we're really adults?"
And as the theme of the film focuses on the idea that "it's never too late for happiness," taking a look at the characters 40 years later gives Rob and the cast "an opportunity to explore those themes with characters that people know and love."
"I'm super excited about it," he added. "Hopefully, we can pull it off."
