Shakira's Ex Gerard Piqué Implies "Truth" Behind Their Breakup Was "Not Told"

Hips don't lie, but Gerard Piqué is hinting that there may be more to the story behind his breakup with Shakira.

The FC Barcelona soccer player reflected on the public fallout surrounding the couple's high-profile split two years later. Though his ex—with whom he shares sons Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9—has been open about her heartbreak, Gerard implied that the public has yet to know "the truth" of why they ended their 11-year relationship

"In the end, the truth or what happens or occurs is not told in the way it was," Gerard told CNN en Español in an Oct. 18 interview translated from Spanish. "I cannot control this."

He continued, "The best thing is that in the end I am surrounded by my loved ones, my family, my friends, the people who really know you. They know what you are like and what you do, and that gives me a lot of peace of mind."

And that includes his girlfriend Clara Chia Marti, who he's been dating since 2022. Looking at his life now, the 37-year-old feels "very happy."

"I feel privileged," he added. "The life I have had—being able to play in the club of my life for more than 20 years, have two wonderful children, have an incredible family—it's amazing."

And for what it's worth, Gerard has refrained from sharing too many details about the split for the sake of his and Shakira's kids. As he noted to El Pais last year, "Everyone has their responsibility to try to do what is best for their children."

"It is about protecting them," he said in a translated interview. "That is the job of all parents with children. That is what I am focused on and that is my job as a father."

As for Shakira? She, too, is focused on her boys.

"I think that nothing can compensate for the pain of destroying a family," the singer told Billboard in 2023. "Of course, I have to keep going for my children's sake; that's my greatest motivation."
